Bringing Eye Care Beyond the 21st Century
At Stoney Creek Eye Care & Eyewear Boutique, we take a progressive approach to optometry. That’s why we’re not content to settle for outdated technology. Some of the Technology at Stoney Creek Eye Care & Eyewear Boutique
OCT - Optical Coherence Tomography
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is an imaging test we use to get a high-resolution picture of your retina. OCT is non-invasive and uses only reflective, low-coherence light. OCT is useful because it takes detailed images of each retinal layer, allowing us to determine your eye health with greater accuracy.
OCT is often used to diagnose and manage eye diseases like glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration.
Automated Phoropter
An automated phoropter, or auto-phoropter, allows us to measure your refractive error digitally. The auto-phoropter helps us determine your prescription to correct refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Since the measurement is completed digitally, it is quicker and more accurate than a regular phoropter. That way, we have more time to discuss your eye health and vision needs.
Slit Lamp Anterior Segment Imaging
Slit lamp photography lets us see the microscopic details of your eye’s anterior segment. This includes your iris, lens, cornea, eyelids, and sclera. By examining these tiny details using a microscope, we’re able to diagnose eye diseases like cataracts and dry eye, and develop a comprehensive treatment plan to help you.
Keratograph 5M
The Keratograph 5M is a device we use to measure your corneal topography. This maps the front surface of your eye and gives us a clear understanding of your eye shape so we can diagnose conditions like astigmatism and fit you for contact lenses.
We also use the Keratograph 5M to capture detailed photos of your meibomian glands. Meibomian gland dysfunction is a key determining factor in developing evaporative dry eye. This advanced diagnosis technology helps us treat you more effectively.
Autorefraction/Autokeratometry
Nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism are all examples of refractive errors. An autorefractor is a computer-based device that measures how light refracts as it passes through your cornea. Our autorefractor allows us to determine the extent of your refractive error and informs the strength of your prescription.
A keratometer is a device designed to measure the curvature of your cornea, which influences your eyeglass and contact lens prescription. Stoney Creek Eye Care & Eyewear Boutique uses an autokeratometer which is digitally-based and more precise.
Both autorefraction and autokeratometry are performed by the same device at our practice.
BlephEx
Blephex is used to treat the symptoms of blepharitis. Blepharitis is caused by improper eyelid hygiene, and can cause our eyelids to become red, sore, and inflamed and is one of the causes of dry eye. Blephex is an in-office procedure that allows your optometry team to gently cleanse your eyelids and remove any bacteria or debris that has built up before it causes irritation.
This painless procedure takes only a few minutes, and can dramatically reduce or even eliminate your blepharitis caused dry eye symptoms.
Digital Retinal Imaging
Many potentially serious eye diseases, like diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration, occur in the retina at the back of the eye. Digital retinal imaging gives us detailed photos of your retinal structure to help us diagnose and monitor any possibly significant changes to your retinal health.
Humphrey Field Analyzer III - Automated Visual Field Testing
Our Humphrey Field Analyzer evaluates the health of your peripheral vision to determine if there are any “blind spots”. You’ll be seated in front of a white screen and asked to focus straight ahead. Small lights will flash in different areas of the screen. While keeping your head still and maintaining your focus directly ahead of you, you’ll press a button every time you see a light. The instrument will map out your field of vision.
Automated Lensometry
Our automated lensometer allows us to check the prescription in your current eyewear and determine whether the lenses have been properly positioned within your frames. Because this equipment is automated, it works faster than a traditional lensometer. This machine can also determine the UV protection of your lenses.
OptikamPad
OptikamPad is specialized software that enhances and extends our opticians’ abilities. This software helps ensure that your eyewear is exactly right, from the fit of the frame to the size and positioning of different areas of your progressive lenses. Through OptikamPad, we can even show you the impact different filters and tints may have on your vision.
